Tasmania Explore the possibilitiesDPIW staff worked with the Australian Government and the University of Tasmania to deliver the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program.

During the year the status of the Tasmanian devil had to be changed from Vulnerable to Endangered under the Threatened Species Act 1995, in response to the inroads of the Devil Facial Tumour Disease. Work on the establishment of an insurance population was a high priority and research resulted in the identification of up to nine strains of the disease.
