Based on the fishing industry the man-made Denison Canal constructed in 1901-1905 gives easy access to the east coast for vessels travelling from Hobart. A memorial at nearby Blackman Bay marks the landing Abel Janszoon Tasman made at Cape Frederick Henry on Forestier`s Peninsula on 3 December 1642.
